David Harbour Discusses Eric Frankenstein in CREATURE COMMANDOS and Confirms He’ll Reprise the Role in Live-Action

David Harbour is talking about his upcoming animated project Creature Commandos again, and this time he discusses his character, Eric Frankenstein. He talks about the creature’s backstory and personality traits. He also confirms that one day, he will reprise the role in a live-action project. While a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Harbour teased:

« It’s a very interesting take on Frankenstein, because one of the great things about Frankenstein is he was sort of raised to be this erudite model of a man, and he still has this weird inhuman rage and confusion within him. So it was a great character to play. It’s very funny. And James is just such an incredible guy. I’ve always wanted to work for him, and I suppose in terms of building this universe there’s a lot of opportunity for these characters to be all sorts of different iterations. There might be a live thing, there might be a cartoon, there might be whatever.”

When talking about his eventual live-action portrayal of Eric Frankenstein, he said:

« Some version of Eric Frankenstein. Less beard, maybe. You think about what he’s done with that Guardians thing, what he does with character, what he does with different action sequences. It’s just exciting to be a part of that thing, with someone starting this thing and someone with such a creative brain. Yeah, it’s great. And the recording — we did a bunch of them and it was funny as hell. We were dying in the room. I’m normally pretty serious. I don’t really mess, and we were dying. It’s outrageous. I can’t wait for you to see it. »

The Creature Commandos team consists of monsters and superheroes, and it was believed that they would be fighting Nazis during World War II. The team consists of a human, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein’s monster, and a gorgon.

Gunn recently clarified on social media that Creature Commandos takes place in the “current day” as the team of monsters will be working under the supervision of Amanda Waller. Gunn also believes that this series is « Some of the Best Stuff He’s Ever Written, » so that should get fans stoked.

The voice cast also includes Sean Gunn as Weasel and GI Robot, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos from Peacemaker.

Gunn previously said of the series: « Creature Commandos is based on the great team from DC. What we’re doing with the DCU is, we are having animation tied directly into live action. Television, movies, and games all intertwine within the same universe. We’re going to cast actors that are going to be able to play the characters in this as well as in other things, some of which we’ve already cast. I’ve written all seven episodes of the show.”

Creature Commandos doesn’t have a release date yet, but the series will drop before Superman: Legacy, which is currently slated for July 11, 2025.
