Former world No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov has been awarded a wildcard into the Delray Beach Open, per Michal Samulski.

Dimitrov, 30, is set to make his second appearance on the hard courts of Delray Beach.

Dimitrov, now ranked at No. 25 in the world, debuted at the Delray Beach Open in 2016. Dimitrov enjoyed a deep run in his Delray Beach debut as he made the semifinal before losing to Rajeev Ram. Dimitrov was supposed to play at the inaugural Dallas Open this week.

Unfortunately for Dimitrov and the Dallas organizers, the Bulgarian tested positive for COVID-19 just before the start of the tournament. Since Dimitrov has been awarded a wildcard into next week’s ATP event in Delray Beach, we can assume that he is recovering well and that he should be able to play next week.

Dimitrov suffered a surprise loss at the Australian Open

Dimitrov beat Jiri Lehecka in the Australian Open first round but then suffered a surprise loss to Benoit Paire in his following match. After stunning Dimitrov, an emotional Paire had a message.

« I’m happy. It’s not been easy since the beginning of the year, so I’m very happy, » Paire said. « I know there are my parents, everyone, watching. Frankly, it was exceptional. « It was a sh— year last year, it’s true that it was complicated.

This year it’s starting, I’m positive (at Covid), I’m doing 7 days (of isolation). It still starts like shit and finally I’m there, I’m hanging on. I’m playing a big game today, one of my best in a very long time.

Well, for me it’s only positive. « I was criticized a lot, all that. After a while, it’s heavy. It’s true that when I manage to make matches like that I have support here, among the French supporters. Frankly, there is nothing better. » It remains to be seen how far can Dimitrov go in his second Delray Beach appearance.
