American tennis star John Isner had a high praise for fellow compatriot Jack Sock following their doubles win at the inaugural Dallas Open. Sock, 29, has accomplished some pretty big things in doubles and Isner thinks he is the best doubles player in the world.
Sock is a three-time Grand Slam champion in men’s doubles and he also has one Grand Slam title in mixed doubles. Also, Sock won the 2018 ATP Finals title with Mike Bryan. Sock achieved a doubles career-high of No. 2 in 2018.
Sock hasn’t played much doubles over the last few years as he is focused on getting his singles career back on track. On Monday, Isner and Sock beat Aleksandr Nedovyesov and Aisam-ul-haq Qureshi 7-6 (3) 6-4. « I sincerely think that Jack Sock is the best doubles player in the world, » Isner said after his and Sock’s doubles win in Dallas, according to We Love Tennis.
Isner, Sock have had success together
Isner and Sock have won two Masters titles together. Isner and Sock captured their maiden team title at the 2016 Shanghai Masters. Two years later, Isner and Sock won their second big title at the Indian Wells Masters.
Isner and Sock are now bidding to win their team title in Dallas. The first break points of the match were seen in the 10th game, when Isner and Sock failed to convert any of their two break points — which at the same time were set points.
As no breaks were seen, the set went into a tie-break — in which Isner and Sock took an early 4-1 lead before realizing their third set point to win a tight opener. After winning the first set, Isner and Sock claimed the first break of the match in the third game to take a 2-1 lead in the second set.
Nedovyesov and Qureshi had three break points in the sixth game but failed to convert. Isner and Sock routinely served out for the match in the 10th game.
