Amrita Acharia is Scary Good in ‘The Sister’

We’re flying through January 2021, and if you feel like you need to take a second to pause, there’s no better time than now on this glorious Woman Crush Wednesday. Take a break to bask in the glow of the wonderful woman we’re celebrating this week, who has done everything from kickin’ butt onscreen in an assortment of roles in both film and television, and crushing it offscreen, too, by running everything from podcasts to races (including the 2016 London Marathon!). So, without further ado, give it up for our WCW, the amazing Amrita Acharia!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Amrita Acharia

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Acharia stars as Holly Fox in upcoming Hulu Original psychological thriller mini-series, The Sister, which will be released on the platform this Friday, January 22nd. The show delves into the story of Nathan Redman (Russell Tovey) who, after nearly a decade spent settled and happily married, finds the life he knows thrown into disarray upon the reappearance of Bob Morrow (Bertie Carvel), an unwelcome face from Nathan’s past who comes bearing shocking news that serves as the catalyst for a series of catastrophic choices.

The series, which is adapted from Neil Cross’s novel Burial and initially broadcast on British network ITV at the end of this past October, has received plenty of positive buzz and praise to make it clear why Hulu is eager to share it with a wider audience. The Guardian recently gave the series four out of five stars and dubbed it “a nail-biting whodunnit that is truly haunting,” while The Independent gave it the same four out of five star review and praised the strength of the show’s cast. See what these publications and more are talking about by checking out Acharia and the rest of the cast’s incredible work in The Sister for a gripping, heart-pumping ride.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Acharia has been putting in consistently great work for a little over a decade now, beginning with her professional onscreen debut in an episode of BBC One medical drama series Casualty in 2010. From there, she appeared in dramatic short films like In Company of Wolves and Collectables, in BBC One medical soap opera show Doctors, and in films like comedy-drama Lapland and biographical drama-thriller The Devil’s Double all before her landing her first big recurring role as Irri throughout the first two seasons of mega-hit HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones in 2011 and 2012.

After her time with Game of Thrones ended, Acharia’s filmography only rapidly diversified and grew, accruing a number of credits, such as one-episode guest appearances in shows like sci-fi adventure-comedy Pen & Paper & Laser Gun and sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf, recurring roles in series like crime drama Acquitted and medical drama The Good Karma Hospital, and roles in feature films like 2013 drama I Am Yours, 2014 comedy horror Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead, 2015 comedy-drama Amar Akbar & Tony, 2018 sci-fi horror White Chamber, 2018 crime thriller Welcome to Curiosity, and 2019 stop-motion animated adventure comedy Missing Link (which won the Golden Globe and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature Film).

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: While we’re not sure what’s next for Acharia project-wise, you can keep up to date with the actress’s life and career by following her on Instagram and Twitter. Don’t miss out on the latest from this week’s wonderful WCW!
