Feds seize over 1000 lbs of duck parts, clams at JFK airport

Federal authorities seized more than 1,000 pounds of duck tongues and intestines and blood clams from a JFK airport shipment, officials said Tuesday.

The discovery was made by U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers on Jan. 13 on a shipment from China, officials said.

Federal officials say they seized and destroyed 600 pounds of fresh duck tongues and just over 330 pounds of frozen duck intestines. The 260 pounds of live blood clams were turned over to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency

“CBP Agriculture Specialists are the first line of defense to prevent the introduction of animal diseases that have the potential to cause significant damage to the Nation’s agricultural economy,” said Troy Miller, the director of field operations at the New York Field Office.
