Grigor Dimitrov explains reason for pulling out of Novak Djokovic clash

Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov has pulled out of the Adria Tour event in Zadar and he won’t be meeting world No. 1 Novak Djokovic this Sunday. Dimitrov, ranked at No. 19 in the world, kicked off his campaign in Zadar on Saturday afternoon against home favorite Borna Coric.

The Bulgarian was nowhere near his best tennis as world No. 33 Coric claimed an easy straight-set win 4-1 4-1. 2017 Nitto ATP Finals champion Dimitrov was replaced by Croatian world No. 299 Nino Serdarusic. « Thank you all for the messages and attention I received.

I want to say that I will be fine. This is a consequence of physical effort and exposure to the sun in the past few days, and I will have to miss the last day in Zadar. I thought it would be fair to give up my place to a great young player to whom this will surely mean a lot. »

Dimitrov told Sport Klub. Dimitrov served out for the opening game of the match against Coric, before he dropped serves in back-to-back games and lost the opener. The Bulgarian had a chance to make a good start to the second set but he failed to convert his first break point of the match.

Dimitrov served out the second game of the second set to end Coric’s five-game run but it didn’t lead to a comeback as the Croatian won the following three games to seal the win in two sets.

The local player didn’t disappoint after replacing Grigor Dimitrov

Serdarusic, 23, received an unexpected chance to compete at the Adria Tour event in Zadar after Dimitrov pulled out from his match Saturday evening match against Pedja Krstin.

Serdarusic, a former world No. 192, delivered a good performance against Krstin as he edged out the Serb in two tight sets 4-3 (5) 4-3 (1). Serdarusic is set to meet Djokovic after replacing Dimitrov. « I am honored to be able to play in the main part of the Adria Tour after the HEP tournament.

This is a great opportunity for me and I am grateful to be in the company of players like this. I am convinced that I will justify the trust and I invite everyone to come and support us on the last day of the tournament! Serdarusic said. It remains to be seen if Grigor Dimitrov will play at the Adria Tour event in Banja Luka.
