Joe Biden will accept nomination at scaled-back Milwaukee convention

Joe Biden plans to formally accept the Democratic presidential nomination in person at a scaled-back national party convention in Milwaukee later this summer, according to a new report.

The former vice president will attend the final night of the four-day convention, set to kick off in the Wisconsin city on Aug. 17, Biden’s campaign and a senior Democratic Party official both confirmed to Drumpe.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, major parts of the convention will take place online through virtual events, according to the report.

The status of both the Democratic and Republican Party conventions had been uncertain amid the global health crisis.

In April, the Democratic National Committee pushed back the date of the Milwaukee gathering from mid-July to mid-August.

“We will not abandon Milwaukee,” DNC Chairman Tom Perez told Wisconsin reporters last week.

A campaign aide told WITI last week that Biden intends to accept the nomination in Milwaukee, in person.

The Republican National Committee last week selected Jacksonville, Fla., to host celebratory parts of their summer convention, after dropping the initial selection of Charlotte, N.C. over coronavirus restrictions.
