Paulina Porizkova secretly wished for a gay son.
The Czech-born model, 55, made the revelation in a lengthy caption in honor of Pride Month, in which she reminisced about her first encounters with gay men when she first began modeling.
“I had no idea what gay was until I got to Paris, where I immediately developed a crush on every gay man around me — so well dressed, so well spoken, so fun, so sensitive, so talented, so good looking! — only to find out their interest in me was not reciprocated,” she wrote, adding: “I call that having great taste in men.”
Porizkova wed Cars lead singer Ric Ocasek in 1989 after meeting on the set of the band’s video “Drive” in 1984. They went on to have two sons, Jonathan, 26 and Oliver, 22, before their split and Ocasek’s death last year.
“Being a mom of two sons, I secretly hoped for a gay son. Well, maybe not so secretly, my sixteen year old had to break it to me gently: ‘mom, I’m sorry, but I don’t think I’m gay,’” Porizkova said.
On a more serious note, Porizkova wrote of her gay friends: “I was blinded by gay fabulousness- it’s necessary to acknowledge the darkness: the pain of growing up feeling different, alone, being relentlessly picked on, threatened, afraid.
“You know what I’m proud off? (sic) My amazing, fabulous gorgeous talented LBGTQ friends who, despite growing up in the dark, nevertheless chose to grow into the light, to shine and sparkle and reflect that light onto the rest of us. 🌈🌈.”
Porizkova has been self-quarantine in her home in upstate New York and has regularly posted photos and videos of her cooking, gardening and knitting skills.
